July 11 '07 - Just returned from the vet and everything is looking good. We can count 6 puppies! Yippee!
Now we just have to wait and see how many boys and how many girls!
Below is an example of what we saw. You can make out the skulls and some of the spines. Isn't it cool!
You need to be a vet to count them though! They see things I can't. More updates below!

July 17th '07 - As the time approaches for a Mom to have her puppies, she starts "nesting". That means
she's looking for a spot to have her puppies that will be safe and private. Even a dog who has never had
puppies before, will start searching out a place to nest. Last night, when I brought Indy in from the yard, she
immediately ran underneath the back porch. She has never done that before. I realized just how close we
are to having puppies! She's already looking for a nest.
So as of today, my house gets turned upside down for awhile in preparation for the big event. The bedroom
beside the master bedroom becomes my whelping room. It is supplied with everything a new Mom could
need to raise a healthy litter. We will bring in the whelping box today and move Indy from her usual bed near
the back door to a private room all of her own. It begins!!
Oh yeah! I think she may just surprise us. She is getting awfully big around the tummy. She may have more
than the six pups the vet could count! Sometimes the little darlings are shy and don't appear for the head
count!
Dale Q. could you please contact me. I've lost your contact information.
July 21 - 6:30PM They are here! And a whole week early to boot! Both Indy and I
are very blurry eyed but wanted you to know that we have 6 healthy pups! 4 girls, 2
boys! More details when we can see straight again!

July 23, 2007 - I think Indy and I can function satisfactorily once again! So, back to the night of July 20th.
Indy started getting restless around 6:00PM. Every time I took her outside, she would dash under the back
porch. (Her perfect place to have a litter of puppies!) I, however, had different plans. No dirt, cobwebs and
bugs for this new litter! I finally had to put her on a flexi-lead to prevent her from disappearing. I was up
with her most of the night. I took her out for a bathroom break 3 times through the night. She finally started
serious contractions around 8:00AM. At this point I had been up over 24 hours! First born was Ms. Yellow.
A big girl weighing in at 16 ounces. Next came Dark Blue, White, Pink, Purple and Light Blue. Their weights
ranged from 12-16 ounces. Considering they had come a whole week early, these were good weights. I
4:15PM. I finally got to bed 42 hours later!
Each day, the pups are handled, weighed and stressed (VERY mildly) to help with their development. It has
been proven that pups who have learned to deal with stress at a young age, handle new things much more
calmly as they get older. My goal is to have as perfect a dog as is possible, and I believe raising them with
The Service Dog Puppy Program is the way to do it. Click on the link to find out exactly how it works and
what I'm doing with the pups on a day to day basis. I do my best to follow it to the letter but sometimes, due
to time constraints, weather etc. not everything gets done. But a HUGE proportion of it does and it benefits
the pups for the rest of their lives! When my "Angels" go home, you'll have the best pup you can possibly
have!
Following is the pup's weights in ounces when born and their weights 48 hours later.
Ms. Yellow 16; 20, Ms. Pink 12;15, Ms. White 16;20, Lt Blue 14;16, Dk Blue 16;18, Purple 12;15

July 27th - All the pups are doing well. Eating, squeaking and sleeping! I have had one person decide to
change from my Indy/Timber litter to an Isis/Diesel litter in the fall. He wants to do competition Schutzhund
work with his dog and I feel that the next litter would be more suitable for him. Therefore, I am calling people
556-3635 and we'll see where you sit as far as numbers go. D.Q. please contact me regarding your puppy.
I must say, I am very grateful for those of you who have waited so long to get an "Angel". Soon, my waiting
list will be gone and I will start taking names again. With the coming of age of my two new girls, my wait
times should be much, much shorter in the future. Thanks again for putting your faith in GUARDIAN ANGEL
SHEPHERDS! You won't be disappointed!
July 31 '07 - How time flies! The pups are ten days old already! All the pups are doing very well. We've
been handling them a minimum of twice per day both by myself (female) and my husband (male). It may
seem strange that both the male and female needs to handle them but it is preparing them for the future.
Have you ever seen a dog who "didn't like men"? They were probably raised by a woman. These first few
weeks are so CRITICAL to their development. I really am surprised that more breeder's don't follow this
program. I suppose it is time constraints. We spend several hours a day with the pups from the day they
are born. It would be impossible to put in that kind of time if you had a big breeding operation. Which is
why I will only have a few litters a year. And never have them over-lapping. There isn't enough hours in a
day!
This is an example of the NEWS page & how we keep you updated for every litter! Click on the litter tags on the left to see others!
August 7th - The pups are over two weeks old and doing very well. Miss Yellow is the biggest of the
bunch. A real go-getter! All the pups have their eyes open now and are, for the first time, seeing each
other. They are starting to interact with one another and initiating play already. They are still very wobbly
on their feet so it's really fun to watch as they try to play with each other and then fall over from lack of
co-ordination. I've added a short video on the "More Stuff" page taken on August 4th. They are just the
cutest things, but you'll see that for yourself. Check back often for more updates and don't forget to visit
The Guardian Angel Family Album on a regular basis to see updated pictures!
Ready to Go!
The gang getting ready to spend some time at the river. (My dogs NEVER ride in the back of the truck!) They are just waiting there while we load everything for the event. Keeps them from getting underfoot! From left to right, Diesel, Kahlua, Isis & Indy

August 8 '07 - new pictures added to the family album! Check them out and leave me some comments!
Aug. 13 '07 - Well it's official! No more whelping box! It's always a guessing game as to who will figure out
how to get out of the whelping box first! This time it was Ms. Purple. She is one of the smaller pups and I
wouldn't have placed money on her. She may be taking after her mother. Indy was the smallest pup of her
litter but always managed to get her own way. She used brains instead of brawn! Indy always gets her way
with the other dogs, even if they are above her in the pecking order. Ms. Purple is definitely showing some of
the same signs.
Their personalities and temperaments are now starting to develop. It's always fun watching them grow up. By
the time they are 49 days old, their temperaments will be established for the rest of their lives. And there's
nobody who knows them individually as well as I do. That's why I pick the puppy for you. An active family
doesn't want the couch potato, the couch potato person doesn't want the active puppy, and the family with
four kids under the age of six does not want the touch sensitive puppy! There is a million scenarios to pick
from and no two puppies are the same. Trust me when I say I can pick the puppy that is right for you.
August 14 '07 - Check out the new video clip! See the pups try and negotiate on the linoleum for the first time.
As they get older, I will introduce them to various floorings so that they become confident no matter where
they are. The RCMP Dog Kennel gave me their "puppy walk". It is about 16 feet long and 3 feet high. It has
every footing type you could imagine. As the pups get older, they will learn to navigate on boards, pipes, out

August 21 '07 - Well the pups are growing like weeds! They are now beginning to sort out their pecking
order. No gentle little nips and bites anymore! It's all out, over who gets the toy or the food or the attention.
Nature is a remarkable thing to observe. I'm starting to see little things that are special to that individual
pup. They no longer are a "litter", rather, they are a group of six individuals now. I have uploaded another
video into the family album. It shows the preparation of their food and how they eat, as well as some
rough-housing at the end. I hope you enjoy the new video. I love getting your comments so please send
me more!
August 23 ' 07 - This week is a week of sounds. The pups have been listening to classical music and
sounds of nature up to this point. They are now introduced to loud, abrupt noises so they will not be
affected later in life. Please go to Isis Visits Banff to see how a properly socialized dog reacts to new
(and loud!) sounds. Make sure your sound is turned up!
We will introduce the pups to: dropping pot, cracking whip, vacuum, drums, taped sounds of crowds,
babies crying & thunder, and even cartoons! And anything else we can think of for that matter! They
learn that the new sounds are all just a part of life.
August 28 '07 - I have added a new video in the German Shepherd Video album! Puppies at 5 weeks!
I have also moved the puppies to their outside quarters. I'll have pictures for you in a few days. They are
just outside the front door and I can see them both when they are inside or out. I have a closed circuit TV
inside the kennel building so I can check on them frequently. And just because they are outside, doesn't
mean that they are forgotten about! Now, instead of spending hours cleaning, I can spend much more
quality time with them because it is a much faster and more efficient means of cleaning. They will go on
their first group walk tomorrow or the next day, depending on the weather. I will also bring each pup inside
individually so they can get used to being on their own. It makes the transition from litter to owner a lot
easier on them. And speaking of that. My new puppy owners, when you come to pick up your new puppy,
you will need to bring with you the blanket that your puppy will be using. I rub the blankets all over the
other pups and Mom so they can have the scent of the family they left behind. That also makes the
transition easier as well.
August 29th '07 - I mentioned in week four that Indy was starting to wean the pups. Although weeks 5-8 is
low on feeding times, Indy provides valuable lessons to the pups. She may not be feeding them as much
but they are learning from her daily. It used to be thought that week six was an ideal time to get your new
puppy. Now, scientific studies have shown that it is crucial to the puppy's psychological development that
they remain with their mother until week eight.
Outside pics coming soon!
GOOD NEWS! -Sept 7 '07 - All the pups received a clean bill of health!! That means each and every potential
puppy owner will be receiving their puppy next weekend!! Although I have never had a puppy not "pass"
there is always the possibility and I don't breathe deeply until it is official. But now it is, and we can all
CELEBRATE!
All the pups had their shots, were dewormed, microchipped and vet checked. They travelled well (about a
20 minute drive each way) and were anxious to explore their new surroundings. All the staff fell in love with
them and I had to recount to make sure I was taking all six home! I believe they might have hidden one or
two away when I wasn't looking!
So the big day is close at hand. And although it is very exciting for the new owners, it is a very sad day for
me. They fill the house which such joy and life. It seems so very empty when they are gone.
However, I've done my very best to assure that each puppy is going to their forever home and that they will
be cared for as well as I could have done. They deserve to have more attention than I could possibly give.
I know that each and everyone of them will be loved and cared for. My goal has always been, to provide
partners for people, so they could enjoy their German Shepherd as much as I have through the years. I am
so very, very proud of all my dogs. The ones that are here with me at Guardian Angel Shepherds and the
ones who have become outstanding partners for deserving people.
Sept. 10 '07 - Well the tests are done! All the pups have been temperament tested and now comes
deciphering the results! I'll have the results posted here tomorrow afternoon. You'll finally get to know
which adorable Angel will be yours! Each pup has it's strong points and not-so-strong points. However,
this does not mean that your dog will not be exactly what you want! Luckily, your perfect dog is probably
different than your neighbour's perfect dog. When all is said and done, you will have the BEST dog to suit
your needs. See you here tomorrow afternoon!
