July 21 '08 - THEY'RE HERE! ISIS HAD HER LITTER OF PUPPIES LAST NIGHT! 8 PUPPIES - 2 MALES, 6 FEMALES! I'VE BEEN UP FOR 36 HOURS SO I'M OFF TO CATCH UP ON SOME SLEEP. MORE NEWS TO FOLLOW SOON!
|
July 24 '08 - I have good news! All 8 puppies are doing great! We have 3 all blacks and 5 black & tans. 2
males & 6 females. Their average weight at birth was a little over 1 pound each. Hard to believe that
they'll be 75 - 100 pounds at maturity! I still have a few pups available for approved homes. If you are
interested, please go to my "Extras" page and fill out the questionnaire. Then send it to me via email and I
will call you and we can discuss details. If you just want a few questions answered, you can email me
directly at k9trainer@airenet.com
July 29 '08 - The puppies are 8 days old now. How time flies! In a few more days, their eyes and ears
will open and they will slowly bring into focus a bright new world. At this stage, they can only react to the
most basic of things, hunger, cold, pain etc. They are not capable of learning until their brain kicks into
overdrive. They can, however, have stimulation that increases the size of the pathways in their brain. It
is now, that I stress them ever so slightly, to encourage the brain to use the pathways. I clasp them in my
hands so they feel secure and very slowly drop my arms down so they are upside down for just a few
seconds. It has been proven that very mild stress at this age enables the older dog to better handle
stressful situations later in life. How cool is that! This is one of the reasons why a Guardian Angel
Shepherd is superior to most other dogs. 100's of hours spent with each litter provides you with the best
dog you can possibly have.
I'm hoping to get some pictures up for you today or tomorrow, so come back soon to check!
You can left click on any picture to enlarge
it or right click to save it to your computer.

August 2 '08 - Oh my gosh the puppies are so cute right now! Some of them are just starting to open their
eyes. They won't be able to focus for another 7-10 days but its the beginning of a whole new life! I promise
to get some pictures, and hopefully, a video up in the next couple of days. They are just starting to raise
their little pot bellies off the ground and are taking their first clumsy steps. I can't wait to share their
progress with you!
August 6 '08 - I have some more pictures for you! One or two are a little out of focus ( sorry, I need to
practice with my new camera) Thanks to my helpers/holders that makes thing so much easier!

August 11, '08 - Hello everyone! First let me apologize for not updating the site in so long. I've been
having monitor problems. My monitor is still under warranty so it will be sent off to the service centre
but do you have any idea how hard it is to find a monitor to use for 4 - 8 weeks?! Nobody keeps them
anymore. They all get trashed with the computer when it's outdated. So I finally had to break down and
buy a new one, even though my original will be fixed. I just couldn't keep you all waiting any longer!
The pups graduated today! Graduated out of their whelping box into the big wide world of "the room"! I
just can't believe this litter is already big enough to graduate! It seems they are doing everything about
a week early. They are already starting to play with one another and they're getting teeth already! Isis
will soon be jumping up onto the Futon to get away from puppy teeth. (I can't say I blame her!)
Now the exciting stuff starts. Up until now, they've not been too much more than dark little sausages
with legs. Now that they are starting to interact we can find out who's going to be boss, who's going to
be the problem solver etc. Lots of exciting things to look forward to! Lots of FUN!
August 13 , '08 I've posted 2 videos of the pups starting to play with each other. Check it out at
WEBSHOTS
August 20 '08 - I can't believe a week has gone by so fast! Of course for all you puppy owners, it's been
excruciatingly long! The pups are so incredibly cute now. They are only 5 inches tall but have that
German Shepherd "attitude". It's hilarious to see them wrestle with each other and then "PLOP" down they
both fall! They've started on their Royal Canin Baby Dog food now. They are getting fed four times a day,
about 1/4 cup each at each feeding. They eat from only 2-3 bowls to keep up their desire to eat. Nobody
wants a picky eater when they grow up! I'm hoping to get pictures up either late today or tomorrow for
sure! Sorry for the long wait between updates!
August 23 '8 - Sorry for the delays everyone. I'm having problems with my computer. What was
supposed to be an upgrade isn't working properly. As soon as I get things working again, updating the
website will be the first thing I do!
August 25 '08 - I've given up with computers! I'm back on my old one that's really slow and it's memory
is totally full, but at least it works. I need a "computer guy" to explain why the Microsoft Easy Transfer
software and Easy Transfer Cable isn't so easy!! I've ended up with my new computer saying that half
the memory is taken up already and I don't have a single file on it yet! I should stick to dogs!
I've added a few short videos of the pups to webshots. You'll see the pups have taken over the house!
You think cleaning up after 1 puppy is bad! Try eight! They are now 5 weeks old and they will soon go
out into the kennel with Mom. There's much more room out there and they can get used to all the outside
noises and excitement. So far, they've learned about vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, telephones,
washers & dryers, tv's, radios, pots and pans, mops & brooms... All the usual household noises and
activities. Soon, they'll learn about the great big world outside!
Our first bath!
August 26 '08 - You can click on any of the pictures below to enlarge them. Enjoy!
Attack & Conquer!
Diesel is very patient with his kids!
His tolerance is actually quite
amazing. He puts up with a lot!
BUT! If you're an older member
of the pack, things are different!
Here Diesel is schooling Liberty
(9 mos) in leaving his toy alone!
He's the perfect teacher for the
teenagers. He's all bark and
not much bite.
Sept. 4 '08 - All the pups have been moved to the outdoor/indoor kennel. It is much larger than your average
dog kennel. It measures approximately 16' X 16', with a large indoor area as well for bad weather. There is
two open dog crates inside the building and one outside. By the time the pups go home, they just assume
that that's where every dog sleeps at night! Crates are a wonderful tool to have. Some people think they are
cages but that couldn't be farther from the truth. From a dog's perspective, it is a den of sanctuary. It is a
place he can go and relax where nobody disturbs him. And it's a safe place too! Nobody can sneak up on you
from behind! I don't know of a single dog who doesn't like it's crate as long as it was introduced properly.
During the training period it should never be a place for the dog to be banished to. But once he understand
what the crate is all about, you can use it for "time outs" with no problem at all. Have you ever sent you
child to his room for bad behaviour? Does your child now hate his room? No! So for those of you who
believe crates are cages, please make a point of talking to people who use them already. They will tell you
the don't know how they did without one before, and that their dog goes in, of his own free will, numerous
times a day!
Sept 10, 08 - I'm sure everyone is anxiously waiting to hear the results of the aptitude test. Unfortunately,
the person who usually does it for me is sick and unable to perform the test. I've booked someone else now
but the pups won't be tested until Saturday. That means you won't know which pup you get until Monday! So
hang in there, it's only a few more days.
The exciting day of bringing home your puppy is just around the corner! They can go to their new homes
anytime after Sept 15 (the actual date to pick up puppies is Sept 15th, not the 22nd. It was a typo. Thank
you Robin for pointing it out!). If you haven't done so already, I need you to make an appointment to pick up
your puppy. Plan on spending 2 hours here. The paperwork takes up quite a bit of time and I have TONS of
information for you to make everything go seamlessly. Now, and in the future.
Your puppy may not "be himself" for a few days. It is a very difficult time for them, to adjust to a new home
and a new pack. Imagine for a moment... You are in the backyard, enjoying a cool one and a good book. Two
very large muscular men come into the yard, whisk you away and drop you off in another country. You don't
know where you are, but you've heard man-eating lions right outside your door! People come and go but you
can't understand what they're saying. You don't know how to ask to eat or where you are supposed to relieve
yourself. During the day, the people seem to have lots of excitement and joy, but you're not sure why. All
you want to do is go home and be with your family again. Then night falls. Everyone is gone! Did they get
eaten by the lions?! You're pretty sure that there is one RIGHT BEHIND YOU! You start crying because
you're frightened and alone. Before long, someone storms up to you and says "OINL SIDIOE LION ADSEA!!!"
and then leaves... Your life is over, as you knew it...
But a new day dawns! The people are back! They weren't eaten by lions! YAY! And they brought food and
took me outside to go to the bathroom! Maybe this isn't such a bad place after all! Look! They're bringing
out toys! YAY!
So you can see how the pup may not show his true colours for a day or two. And remember, although she is
used to my vacuum, telephones, dishwasher and blenders, she's not used to YOUR vacuum, telephones,
dishwasher and blender. Be sure to ask me how to handle a situation that has frightened the pup.
Things to bring with you when you pick up your "Angel" -
- An extra person to either drive or hold the pup. I prefer they don't go home in crates as it is too stressful on
them.
- A blanket/towel to rub on Mom and the remaining pups. This will bring their scent into your home for the
puppy and it will reassure him a little. After a few days, he will transfer his loyalty to his new pack; YOU!
- Clean up supplies. Sometimes the puppies will get car sick on the way home. Be sure you have paper
towels, cleaner, and a garbage bag.
- Your final payment. Please bring a certified cheque, Money Order, Bank Draft, Email Money Transfer or
cash. Please make cheques etc. payable to Mary Ann Marcellus, not Guardian Angel Shepherds.
If you have any questions, give me a call at 403 556-3635. And don't forget to book your take home time!

Sept. 11 '08 - Well it was a big day for the puppies. Vet check and shots day. They all handled it very well.
They sure were a pack of pooped puppies when they got back though!
One thing I forgot to mention is to be sure to buy Puppy Food for your little Angel! They are being fed Royal
Canin BABY DOG. Be sure it's Baby Dog. They can be switched to Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy when
they turn 5 months old. But now, be sure to get Baby Dog. You'll avoid the runs that way!
I'm posting more pictures on webshots so come take a look!
Sept. 11, 08 - Addendum - For the first time ever, one of the pups has not passed the vet check. Miss White
was diagnosed with a small heart murmur. The vet rated it a 1-2 out of 6. This means there's a good
chance that she will grow out of it. I haven't seen any physical signs that she was any different than the
others. She runs, plays, wrestles and eats just like all the rest. Her growth has not been stunted in any
way. She is a wonderful girl, full of love and life. I hope the vet is right and she outgrows her problem. She
is available to the right family.
Sept 12, '08 - It's testing day today! All the pups will be tested to see where there true innate abilities lie!
I'll have the results for you tomorrow!
Mr. Red - Dom
Miss Light Blue - Kevin
Miss Pink - Available due to
change in new owners
circumstances.
Miss White is still showing no
signs of a health problem.
She's just as feisty and tough
as the rest of them!
Miss Yellow - Tim S.
Miss Green - Donna I.
Mr. Brown - Jon K.
